Congratulations Coach
It has been quite a summer for Starbreakers Head coach Paul sweeney as he had the pleasure of attending the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens Greece. Paul was selected to be a part of the Team Ireland Athletics Coaching staff and had an enjoyable 17 days in the sunny meditterenean. The down side to his was none of our local athletes made the selection process but there always next time. The World Games is the highest level of Specal Olympics competition and I was very honoured to be on the team Paul said aftrwards. I hope its not the last time.

Rain Doesn't Dampen Fun/Sports Day
The Starbreakers SO club were out in force on Sat 14th May at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast for the invitational sports event prior to the Summer World Games. Guests of the Newtownabbey Racers, Starbreakers took this opportunity to try out some new events and also to give our new athletes the chance of some good track and competition experience. The weather was dismal to say the least but it didn't deter from our boys and girls performances, they all did the club proud battling the elements and the opposition from, Newtownabbey, Breffni Blues, North Down, Banbridge, and the All Stars clubs. Starbreakers posted some great times and pulled off some sterling performances notably the 4x100 relay and winning the 4x25m relay. Thanks as always to our small but great band of volunters Eileen, Mary T, Holly, and Laura and our junior helpers Jamie and Aoife.
Bring on Templemore on the 11th of June.

Fundraising Projects Huge Success

The Starbreakers like every club and group are continually trying to fund themselves in order to keep going. Firstly a big thank you to our sponsors and annual contributors. Other events have been taking place over the past few months including a very successful walk in the Creggan visitors cntre park on the May day bank holiday Monday. This pulled in a large crowd and proved to be a verygood social occasion as well as being very beneficial to club funds. Thank you to all who attended and took part.
10th March saw the annual Starbreakers quiz night in the Old Charm Inn Carrickmore and again a large turnout supported the evening andit turned out to be a nail biting finale to a fun event. pictured are some of the very intelligent teams

12 Week Update ( Get On Board)
As Febuary starts to draw to a close it hasn't been a good period on the weather front for our guys and girls to get outside however the training has continued indoors and is ticking over nicely. The athletes enjoyed a bit of liesure time over he festive period taking in the musical Grease and are currently involved in a dance and drama workshop of their own. The end product of this will be a performance in Carrickmore soon, so watch this space? The world games take place this summer rendering the local season a bit of a non starter but please ensure your athlete is still in training and keeping actively involved. There has been a severe lack of interest in athletes and family members becoming involved in our blog despite repeated attempts to encourage this facility. Please sign up and ask friends and familiy to do like wise, if we had a fully active blog then its only a press of a keypad away from Starbreakers latest news so please get on board.
